I’m sure I’m not the only one who has struggled with it this
year. Winter is the easiest time to gain weight, and it has to be one of the
worst feelings ever!
Between being stuck indoors and fighting cravings for
comfort food, the journey to make healthy choices certainly hasn’t been easy for
me. But, even though it’s been tough, there is one thing that gets me excited —
upcoming farmers markets.
My husband and I have decided to supplement our normal
grocery list with fresh foods from farmers markets this spring and summer, and I
think this will be one of the best decisions we’ve made in some time.
Shopping at the produce section of a grocery store is OK,
but nothing beats waking up on a Saturday morning, driving down the road and
shopping at a market.
I’ve never had the chance to regularly make these foods a
part of my diet, but I’m sure it will make a difference. I’m hoping it will open
us up to trying new foods and help us make healthier choices.
It might even be good for our food budget. We are setting
aside a small amount of cash each week to have as our spending allowance.
It’s easier not to go over budget when you’re using money
and not a card. When it’s gone, it’s gone.
But as excited as I am about the good food, I think I’m just
as excited to get out there and be involved with the community. We’re new to
town, and I think it will be a great way to get to know our neighbors.
Farmers soon will be in the fields, gardeners will be using
their green thumbs and I will be writing about all of it. There’s nothing else
I’d rather do.
