LA SALLE, Ill. — Burrus Hybrids and Illinois AgriNews have started their search for the 2014 Illinois Farm Family of the Year.

The award, now in its 16th year, will honor a family for the members’ work on their farm and contributions in their community.

“With the presentation of this award, we seek to tell the story of the family — as well as the story of agriculture — by recognizing one of the state’s finest farm families,” said Illinois AgriNews Publisher Lynn Barker.

The family will be honored at the University of Illinois’ Salute to Agriculture on Saturday, Sept. 6.

The event includes the Fighting Illini football game against the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers and the U of I College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences reception.

The award winners will receive prize packages from Burrus Hybrids and Illinois AgriNews. The family also will receive a plaque, as well as a sign that can be displayed on their farm.

People may nominate their own family or others by completing a nomination form and returning it to Illinois AgriNews at 420 Second St., La Salle, IL 61301. Nominations also may be faxed to (815) 223-5997.

A nomination form can be found in Illinois AgriNews, as well as online at www.agrinews-pubs.com. The deadline for receiving the nominations is Monday, Aug. 25.

The award is not limited to one part of the state, and it is not restricted to a particular type or size of farm. Siblings who share the same farm may be nominated together.
