WHITTINGTON, Ill. — The 2013 Illinois Beef Association Summer Conference is scheduled June 24-26 at Rend Lake Resort near Whittington.

Aside from the opportunity to fellowship with other cow-calf producers and feeders from Illinois, attendees also will get to meet and hear from leading cattle industry experts from around the country.

The annual awards banquet, sponsored by the Illinois Corn Marketing Board, will officially kick off the conference at 5 p.m., June 24.

IBA scholarships, Seedstock Breeder of the Year, Commercial Breeder of the Year, Environmental Steward of the Year and IBA membership awards will be presented during the banquet.

The IBA Annual Meeting gets under way at 7 a.m., June 25, and will feature bylaws amendments votes and IBA checkoff director elections. Zoetis Cattlemen’s College will follow the annual meeting with educational seminars.

Speakers will include Bob Sand, the Beef Connection; Sam Odom, Summit Livestock Facilities; Colin Woodall, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association vice president of governmental affairs; Mark Gardiner, Gardiner Angus Ranch; and a panel discussion on utilizing cover crops alongside grain production to increase returns per acre for beef producers in Illinois.

Following the Zoetis Cattlemen’s College, dinner will be served at Pheasant Hollow Winery featuring a wine tasting and meal at 6 p.m.

A bus tour on June 26 will visit several prominent beef industry sites in southern Illinois, including the Dale Beasley and Sons feedyard in Creal Springs, the Dixon Springs Ag Center in Simpson and the Todd Slykhuis farm in Raleigh.
