Morton Buildings offers options on sizing

BOONE, Iowa — The new Morton Buildings Standard product line features pre-designed plans along with pre-manufactured materials for small- to medium-sized buildings at an affordable price.

“These buildings have our most popular configurations of features and materials while still providing the great quality customers have come to expect from Morton,” said Lisa Bocklage, Morton Buildings marketing manager.

“Over the years we noticed a strong interest in more popular but basic storage buildings,” Bocklage said during the Farm Progress Show Media Day. “These buildings are used for cold storage of farm machinery or on residential properties for storage of boats or RVs.”

The company identified the most popular configurations.

“We have pre-designed plans along with some pre-manufactured materials for efficient shipping and production and we’re passing that savings along to the customer,” Bocklage said.

“We’re offering options on sizing that range up to 60 feet wide and 120 feet in length and we have predefined where the doors can be placed,” she said.

There are options available for customers of the Standard line.

“The customer may decide he wants 1-foot overhangs or he may choose wainscot on the bottom of the perimeter of the building,” Bocklage said.

Morton Buildings tested the idea of the Standard product line during the rise of the pandemic earlier this year.

“We’ve had very positive response and in some cases the pandemic may have contributed to some of that because people are investing in more recreational and outdoor activities,” Bocklage said.

“People need places to store those purchases they made like boats,” she said. “People are also investing in property improvement projects because if they’re going to be home more they want to enjoy it.”

Morton has also seen an interest among farmers for not only the Standard line, but also the Premium line of buildings.

“One factor is the interest rates are fairly low right now so some farmers are looking at this as an opportunity for making investments in their operation,” Bocklage said.

New for buildings this year is the woodgrain cedar paint color.

“When you approach the building it has a board and batten type look,” Bocklage said. “It is a premium paint color process that provides a pattern and very few steel coating manufacturers provide this.”

Last year Morton Buildings debuted the patterned weathered gray premium color option during the Farm Progress Show.

“It was interesting to watch as people came up to look at the building,” Bocklage recalled. “So many people had to touch the side of the building to confirm it wasn’t wood.”

The first patterned steel paint offered by Morton Buildings was rustic bronze.

“We had a demand for people looking for a pre-rusted type metal,” Bocklage said.

“We put all our premium colors and patterns through our extensive testing and quality assurance process because we stand behind the paint after it’s on the steel on the buildings,” she said. “This paint has gone through corrosion testing, accelerated weather testing and UV testing to make sure it has the same durability that we look for in our paint products.’

A couple of Morton Buildings have been built with the new woodgrain cedar color.

“The great thing about this color is it provides the woodgrain aesthetic appeal to the building and a virtually maintenance free option since it’s steel,” Bocklage said.

Morton Buildings continues to look for new innovations.

“There are a lot of possibilities,” Bocklage said.
