INDIANAPOLIS — The 93rd National FFA Virtual Convention has concluded for the year and despite being held largely virtually still reached thousands of FFA members throughout the country.
The convention also left a life-changing impact on six young members when they were officially elected as the new 2020-2021 National FFA officer team.
Although they were not able to rush the stage when they heard their names called, all of the final 16 candidates were on Zoom in their home state with their support and cheering section by their side.
Members of the National FFA Organization officer team are Doster Harper of Georgia, president; Anna Mathis of Arkansas, secretary; Paxton Dahmer of Missouri, central region vice president; Miriam Hoffman of Illinois, eastern region vice president; David Lopez of California, western region vice president; and Artha Jonassaint of Florida, southern region vice president.
“I’m excited to spend another year in a blue jacket,” said Dahmer, adding that even though it has been an odd year and a different election format it has been an absolutely incredible experience.
When posed with the question of why the new national officers still decided to run even though their year of service may be different, the answer was simple.
“For me it was about living out my purpose regardless of the way I serve people,” said Hoffman, adding that no matter if the platform was virtual or traditional, she and her five new teammates can still don their blue corduroy jackets and influence FFA members across the country.
