Pandemic forces cancellation of annual WIU Ag Mech Farm Expo

MACOMB, Ill. — Western Illinois University’s School of Agriculture has announced that this year’s planned Farm Expo, the 51st annual event hosted by Western Illinois University’s Agriculture Mechanization Club, has been canceled because of the limitations of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The expo was scheduled for Feb. 6-7 in Western Hall, but restrictions on the number of people allowed to gather on campus forced its cancellation. Next year’s show is scheduled for Feb. 5-6, 2022.

Last year, the Ag Mech Club celebrated the 50th anniversary of the farm show on campus, as well as the 100th anniversary of WIU’s School of Agriculture.

“We are very disappointed that we are unable to host the 51st WIU Ag Mech Show this year. However, under the current COVID-19 restrictions of the university, we are unable to do so,” said Ag Mech Club Co-Adviser Jana Knupp. “We will be in touch with all registered vendors to discuss their options moving forward. We hope to see everyone again next year.”

The annual expo, acknowledged as the largest, student-run agriculture show in the country, attracts more than 150 vendors and provides networking opportunities for students.
