WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University’s College of Agriculture recently announced a new head of its Department of Food Science.
Senay Simsek, who will take over the position on July 1, answered some questions from AgriNews.
Why did you decide to return to Purdue and apply for the position of food science department head.
“I graduated from Purdue University with my Ph.D., and I’m a proud Purdue graduate. As I progressed in my career, I always followed the work and research that was done at Purdue, and when the job came open, I decided to apply. It was a great opportunity to serve in an institution that played a big role in my career.”
What are your future plans for the Department of Food Science?
“I have the opportunity to pay back not only the food science department, but also the college in general. Purdue’s food science department has a long history of success. They have worked hard over the years, and it is an honor to come back and lead it.”
What is your vision for Purdue’s food science department?
“The food industry changes every day, and consumers have begun to become sophisticated in what they expect from their food. I hope that Purdue can be a part of that vision. I hope the department can conduct research and utilization of the food industry and food safety. It’s great to be back, and serve to the best of my capabilities.”
