Lawton Farms auction features more than 1,100 acres

RICHMOND, Ind. — Lawton Farms, which features some of Indiana’s most productive farmland, will be offered at auction Aug. 16, with Schrader Real Estate and Auction Company conducting the event.

“You rarely see a farm this size with soils of this quality, mostly contiguous and all within two miles,” said R.D. Schrader, president of the auction company.

The 1,112-acre farm, located along the Ohio state line, will be offered in 13 tracts. Most of the land is in Union County, with some in Wayne County.

“This has some of the highest soil indexes in Indiana, about 1.5 miles fronting on S.R. 227 and 1.5 miles adjoining the active CSX Railroad. It includes excellent grain storage for 250,000 bushels and two newer barns for large machinery. It also has extensive tiling and has been well managed for years by its owner/operator. Of the 1,112 acres, 1,097 are FSA cropland, most contiguous,” said land broker Steve Slonaker.

“The farm is located in a well-known farming area that features highly productive soils, level land and a history of favorable weather patterns,” Slonaker said.

Schrader personnel will be available to accommodate inspections and provide detailed information July 8, July 15 and Aug. 5.

The auction will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 16 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds, 861 Salisbury Road, Richmond.
