WHITELAND, Ind. — Students from the Whiteland FFA Chapter participated in the fifth annual Feed the Farmer event Oct. 10.
They packed lunched and delivered them to more than 200 farmers and farm workers in Johnson County.
“The last line of the FFA motto is ‘Living to Serve,’” said Hannah Goeb, FFA adviser at Whiteland Community High School.
“I think this is an aspect of FFA that gets overlooked sometimes in the excitement of competitions and contests with the students. But I have seen firsthand how putting a focus on community service in our chapter has made our students more humble, appreciative and transformed them into servant leaders that take interest in the wellbeing of their community.”
The Feed the Farmer project was created by Josh Rhodes, former Whiteland FFA member and president, in 2018.
“He had been working for a local farmer during harvest and realized the long hours and time spent away from family that farmers sacrifice to secure our food supply,” Goeb explained.
“We first began distributing in just our local school district, but have grown the event to be a countywide initiative for our chapter.”
