Calendar: 4-H Federation hosts pork chop dinner

MORRISON, Ill. — The Whiteside 4-H Federation Pork Chop Dinner will be 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. July 12 at the Whiteside County Fairgrounds, 201 W. Winfield St., Morrison.

Meals can be enjoyed on-site or drive up and take them home. Each $10 meal comes with a pork chop sandwich, baked beans, apple sauce, chips, cookie and water.

Cultivating Care

Pressure Canning Basics

PRINCETON, Ind. — The Pressure Canning Basics workshop will be 1 to 2:30 p.m. CT July 8 at the Toyota Events Center at the Gibson County Fairgrounds, 709 N. Embree St., Princeton.

Nutrient Management

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Nutrient Management Plan workshop will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET July 9 at the Allen County Extension office, 4001 Crescent Ave., Fort Wayne.

Participants will walk through the steps of writing basic nutrient management plans for their crop or livestock operations. Topics will include basic soil health principles and nutrient cycles, manure sampling and analyses, and the steps and processes of a nutrient management plan.

The $20 registration includes materials, a manure sampling kit, a printed copy of the “Tri-State Fertilizer Recommendations for Corn, Soybean, Wheat and Alfalfa”, and lunch. Participants will earn credits for PARP, Commercial Applicator Category 14 license renewal, and Certified Crop Advisor credits.

Financial Preparedness

URBANA, Ill. — The online Lessons for Living program Financial Emergency Preparedness for Older Adults will be 2 to 3 p.m. July 9.

Disasters and other emergencies can disrupt finances and a sense of normal. In this session, participants will learn ways to organize and manage finances, develop valuable resource lists, and ways to reduce anxiety and stress. With a focus on implications for older adults, the program also will explore processes such as building a contact lists before an emergency, watching out for financial fraud following a disaster, and building a financial preparedness toolkit.

McHenry County Garden Walk

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. — The McHenry County Garden Walk will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 13.

Wellness Walk
