There were 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending July 7, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Illinois Field Office. Statewide, the average temperature was 73.2 degrees, 1.8 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 1.18 inches, 0.28 inches above normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 5% very short, 28% short, 65% adequate and 2% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 5% very short, 32% short, 60% adequate and 3% surplus.

Corn silking reached 39%, compared to the five-year average of 16%. Corn dough reached 1%. Corn condition was rated 4% very poor, 6% poor, 23% fair, 52% good, and 15% excellent.

Soybeans blooming reached 43%, compared to the five-year average of 24%. Soybeans setting pods reached 9%, compared to the five-year average of 3%. Soybeans condition was rated 3% very poor, 7% poor, 24% fair, 55% good, and 11% excellent.

Winter wheat harvested for grain reached 93%, compared to the five-year average of 85%.
