There were 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending July 7, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Indiana Field Office. Statewide, the average temperature was 72 degrees, 1.8 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.98 inches, 0.04 inches above normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 6% very short, 24% short, 65% adequate, and 5% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 7% very short, 29% short, 60% adequate, and 4% surplus.

Corn silking reached 20%, compared to 13% last year, and the five-year average of 11%. Corn condition was rated 3% very poor, 6% poor, 24% fair, 53% good, and 14% excellent.

Soybeans blooming reached 30%, compared to 19% last year, and the five-year average of 21%. Soybeans setting pods reached 9%, compared to 1% last year, and the-year average of 2%. Soybeans condition was rated 3% very poor, 6% poor, 25% fair, 54% good, and 12% excellent.

Winter wheat harvested for grain reached 84%, compared to 55% last year, and the five-year average of 59%.
