There were 4 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending July 14, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Illinois Field Office. Statewide, the average temperature was 75.5 degrees, 0.9 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 1.93 inches, 1.13 inches above normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2% very short, 15% short, 79% adequate, and 4% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3% very short, 22% short, 70% adequate, and 5% surplus.

Corn silking reached 62%, compared to 58% last year, and the five-year average of 45%. Corn dough reached 8%, compared to 5% last year, and the five-year average of 3%. Corn condition was rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 20% fair, 57% good, and 16% excellent.

Soybeans blooming reached 66%, compared to 55% last year, and the five-year average of 40%. Soybeans setting pods reached 28%, compared to 16% last year, and the five-year average of 9%. Soybeans condition was rated 2% very poor, 4% poor, 21% fair, 64% good, and 9% excellent.

Winter wheat harvested for grain reached 96%, compared to 93% last year, and the five-year average of 93%.
