Illinois crop progress for the week ending Oct. 6

There were 6 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending Oct. 6, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Illinois Field Office. Statewide, the average temperature was 65.7 degrees, 6.3 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.14 inches, 0.61 inches below normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 6% very short, 32% short, 60% adequate, and 2% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 8% very short, 39% short, 52% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Corn mature reached 94%, compared to 95% last year, and the five-year average of 82%. Corn harvested reached 32%, compared to 37% last year, and the five-year average of 30%. Corn condition was rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 18% fair, 57% good, and 20% excellent.

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 90%, compared to 96% last year, and the five-year average of 83%. Soybeans harvested reached 42%, compared to 37% last year, and the five-year average of 28%. Soybeans condition was rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 24% fair, 55% good, and 14% excellent.

Winter wheat planted reached 18%, compared to 25% last year, and the five-year average of 21%. Winter wheat emerged reached 6%, compared to 4% last year, and the five-year average of 4%.
