Illinois crop progress for the week ending Oct. 27

There were 6.6 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending Oct. 27, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Illinois Field Office. Statewide, the average temperature was 55.2 degrees, 2.9 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.28 inches, 0.31 inches below normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 28% very short, 52% short, and 20% adequate. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 24% very short, 52% short, and 24% adequate.

Corn harvested reached 87%, compared to 78% last year, and the five-year average of 73%.

Soybeans harvested reached 90%, compared to 86% last year, and the five-year average of 80%.

Winter wheat planted reached 85%, compared to 85% last year, and the five-year average of 79%. Winter wheat emerged reached 55%, compared to 55% last year, and the five-year average of 48%. Winter wheat condition was rated 4% very poor, 6% poor, 39% fair, 47% good, and 4% excellent.
