Indiana crop progress for the week ending Oct. 27

There were 6.7 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending Oct. 27, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Indiana Field Office. Statewide, the average temperature was 54.9 degrees, 3.4 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.08 inches, 0.50 inches below normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 32% very short, 44% short, and 24% adequate. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 31% very short, 43% short, and 26% adequate.

Corn harvested reached 77%, compared to 52% last year, and the five-year average of 58%.

Soybeans harvested reached 87%, compared to 75% last year, and the five-year average of 75%.

Winter wheat planted reached 72%, compared to 68% last year, and the five-year average of 74%. Winter wheat emerged reached 40%, compared to 36% last year, and the five-year average of 43%. Winter wheat condition was rated 2% very poor, 4% poor, 27% fair, 53% good, and 14% excellent.
