Illinois crop progress for the week ending April 20

There were 4.1 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending April 20, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service, Heartland Regional Field Office.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 1% very short, 7% short, 72% adequate, and 20% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 2% very short, 13% short, 73% adequate, and 12% surplus.

Corn planted reached 7%, compared to 10% last year, and the five-year average of 11%. Soybeans planted reached 10%, compared to 10% last year, and the five-year average of 7%. Winter wheat headed reached 5%, compared to 10% last year, and the five-year average of 6%. Winter wheat condition was rated 1% very poor, 6% poor, 38% fair, 49% good, and 6% excellent.
