Indiana crop progress for the week ending April 20

There were 3.7 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending April 20, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service, Indiana Field Office.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2% very short, 6% short, 63% adequate, and 29% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3% very short, 13% short, 61% adequate, and 23% surplus.

Corn planted reached 2%, compared to 2% last year, and the five-year average of 5%. Soybeans planted reached 3%, compared to 2% last year, and the five-year average of 3%.

Winter wheat jointing reached 30%, compared to 40% last year, and the five-year average of 38%. Winter wheat headed reached 1%, compared to 0% last year, and the five-year average of 0%. Winter wheat condition was rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 24% fair, 55% good, and 14% excellent.
