NORTH BEND, Neb. — Changes in weather can create unexpected changes in surfaces — which means an increased chance for slips, trips, falls and wrecks.
Linda Emanuel, community health director at AgriSafe Network, shared a blog about the importance of preparing for weather changes.
“Winter months are here, and now is the time to take inventory of cold-weather outdoor clothing,” she said.
“In addition to durable protection to provide warmth and avoid frostbite, avoiding slips, trips and falls are a major winter challenge. Agriculture does not stop for ice, wind, snow, or low visibility conditions.”
According to the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 26% of disability and death claims were caused by slips, trips and falls.
The National Safety Council reports the overall cost of a fall injury can readily exceed $40,000.
