Indiana FFA to celebrate National FFA Week

Update from Indiana FFA state officer

Conner Keeslar

INDIANAPOLIS — As National FFA Week approaches, Indiana FFA state officers are preparing for a busy week Feb. 17-24 traveling the state and celebrating FFA.

Conner Keeslar, Indiana FFA northern region vice president, shared an update with AgriNews.

Q: How will you and other Indiana FFA officers celebrate National FFA Week?

A: The team will be spending FFA Week on the road visiting chapters to participate in their FFA Week activities. We will also spend some time in the classroom facilitating and getting to know members.

Q: What are some of your favorite aspects of National FFA Week?

A: My favorite part about FFA Week is the variety. Even as a district officer, I had the chance to visit schools with FFA Week events. I realized from those events that every chapter does something a little different, but everyone makes it their mission to have a good time.

Q: Why do you think it’s important to participate in National FFA Week?

A: Participating in FFA Week activities is important because as its base purpose it promotes agriculture. Some chapters take the direct route and host a day on the farm or an ag day at which they teach about agriculture to students. But even if you go bowling as a chapter, the conversations you can have with the public allow you to explain what FFA is and how we stand for agriculture.

Q: How can alumni celebrate?

A: I would say the best way for alumni to celebrate FFA Week is to see what the nearest chapter is doing. There is the chance they need more chaperones, they need someone to bake cookies for the bake sale, or they need someone to bid on items at a benefit auction. Giving back to a local chapter is always a good place to start.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a state officer so far?

A: My favorite memories as a state officer would have to be interacting with the people this organization touches. I word it like that because having a conversation with a member can be one memorable moment and having a conversation with a corporate sponsor is a different memorable moment. Everyone has their own experiences and to get a glimpse of that is really something special.

Q: What do you look forward to doing the rest of the year?

A: There are two things that I look forward to the rest of this year. The first is State Convention. The chance to see members once again, award them their hard-earned awards and leave them with a parting message. Secondly, getting to spend these last few months with my team. After we end our term, we split and go to four different colleges. I want to make some final memories before we start the next chapter of our lives.
