INDIANAPOLIS — National FFA Week is a time for FFA members to share agriculture with their fellow students and communities — and also a chance for chapters to give back to their communities through service projects.
“Many chapters do many different events to support their community during FFA Week,” said Conner Keeslar, Indiana FFA northern region vice president.
“National FFA has announced that Monday, Feb. 19, will be the National Day of Service. In the past, chapters have collected food donations, packed meals for the hungry, or assembled events to help out animal shelters.”
Willow Springs FFA
Willow Springs FFA members partnered with their community to host a dog food drive in support of the West Plains Animal Clinic.
Collection tubs were placed around the school and community. They collected over 800 pounds of food, plus over $1,000 in supplies and medicine.
FFA members and chapters can help local shelters by hosting adoption events, partnering with trap, neuter and release groups, helping socialize animals, creating adoption kits and collecting donations.
Wyndmere FFA
Wyndmere FFA members built sensory tables that were wheelchair accessible to provide students with more play options at recess. The tables were designed by students after consulting with teachers.
Research shows that sensory toys provide a calming effect and can help relieve anxiety.
