From the Fields: Getting classic mower ready

Aaron Rients works on his Roof Palomino mower to get it ready for the Threshermen’s Reunion. His grandfather, Lowell Sidfrids, was a long-time engineer at the Roof Manufacturing Company in Pontiac, Illinois.

I have a drive shaft problem on one of my Roof Palomino mowers that I’m trying to get it fixed and have it ready to go for the Threshermen’s Reunion. My grandpa, Lowell Sidfrids, was the engineer at the Roof Manufacturing Company in Pontiac for a long time before he moved on to other positions. He helped with the very first weed mower in 1945.

For the past couple of weeks we’ve been cleaning up. I’m hosting a plot meeting for Agrauxine, a company I’m doing test plot work for. Some of the higher ups in the company are coming to my plot to see the product in the field. The following day, on Sept. 5, I’m going to have my LG Seeds and Golden Harvest plot tours and meeting. Agrauxine representatives will be there to also give a presentation on their products.

I’ve got to take a water heater out at the Livingston County Humane Society tonight and take it down to Bloomington and exchange it. I’ve got to get some hydraulic oil and engine oil for fall and fill some torch tanks. I’m kind of doing a myriad of things between prepping for the plot meetings and getting ready for fall.
