From the Fields: Volunteering at humane society

This is my third year as a volunteer at the Livingston County Humane Society. I joined the board in January.

It started when they hired me to mow their property and then I started helping and doing what they needed. Every time I mowed, they’ll ask if I could look at this or look at that. It’s kind of rewarding to know that you’re making a difference and utilizing the skills that I have.

One thing that’s happened that even I wasn’t thinking about the past two years is just the amount of fur and hair that is here. They wash blankets and things daily. So, they have a big commercial unit. People have duct fires and stuff in their home. Well, this is 10 times worse than that.

So, we’re always cleaning the duct work. Today, I need to get in there and clean below the lint trap of the dryer because there’s still hair that slips through. It’s got a really good lint trap, but not quite good enough.
