State Fair in sheep shape

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Sheep Association is sponsoring sheep-themed competitions, vendors and educational opportunities at the Indiana State Fair.

The programming received assistance from the Sheep and Wool Market Development Program.

Highlights include:

• Indiana Make It with Wool Competition — 2 p.m. July 30, third floor of the Indiana Arts Building.

• Indiana State Fair Shearing Contest — 5 p.m. Aug. 2, Champions Pavilion.

• Open Wool Judging — 10 a.m. Aug. 4, ISA Wool and Ewe Room, Blue Ribbon Pavilion.

• Indiana Sheep-to-Shawl Competition — 10 a.m. Aug. 20, performance floor of the Indiana Arts Building.

The ISA Wool and Ewe Room, located in the lobby of the Blue Ribbon Pavilion, will open on the first day of the fair — July 28. Attendees can find the Wool Competition entries along with products for sale.

Across the street, fashion-interested shoppers can find western, show and country apparel and jewelry at Ewe 2, the Wool Room’s sister shop.

Sample lamb summer sausage from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 10-11 in the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion as part of the Taste of Indiana Farms event.

Fairgoers can see sheep in the Blue Ribbon Pavilion off and on Aug. 4-20 for 4-H and open shows.
