Owen County 4-Hers use grant to help ‘neigh’-bors

Indiana communities benefit from YES grants

4-H members visit Horse Angels Inc. — a facility that rescues horses and gives horse riding lessons to 4-Hers.

SPENCER, Ind. — The Willing Workers 4-H Club in Owen County received a $1,000 Youth Engaged Service Grant from the Indiana 4-H Foundation to support Horse Angels Inc. — a local facility that rescues horses and gives horse-riding lessons to 4-H members.

Thanks to the grant, the club was able to donate horse stall mats, Max E-Glo feed for older horses that have trouble keeping weight on, and grooming accessories such as brushes, mane detanglers and combs, hoof picks and saddle pads.

The club members and their families also spent time cleaning horse stalls and grooming the horses.

In 2023, the Indiana 4‑H Foundation awarded 31 YES grants for a total of $28,544.30. Funds for this initiative were made available from the Nola Gentry Charitable Trust and Corteva Agriscience.
