Visitors learn about farm animals

St. Joe County Ag Days in South Bend

Families met a variety of farm animals, such as calves, at the 2024 St. Joseph County Ag Days.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Visitors learned about farm animals and other ag-centered topics at the 2024 St. Joseph County Ag Days April 5-7.

“The free, interactive farm event is for the entire family and it’s meant to teach children where farm products originate,” said Clay Geyer, committee member for the county’s ag team.

“This is one of the largest three-day indoor educational and agricultural events in northern Indiana where children and adults see sheep, goats, pigs, beef, rabbits, dairy cows and calves, poultry and can even pick an apple from a tree, gather eggs from the hen house, milk a cow, learn all about honeybees and see the production of maple syrup.”

Children start their journey in the welcome barn at the fairgrounds, where they grab a basket to fill with commodities from several stations.

They learn about each commodity, and then deliver their basket to market — where they pretend to sell their items in exchange for a snack.

The event also featured a pedal tractor pull and an Agricultural Olympics game.

Next year’s event will be held April 4-6.
