Orr Beef Research Center Field Day scheduled

BAYLIS, Ill. — The annual Orr Beef Research Center Field Day will take place at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Ag Sciences Complex and Fred Bradshaw Learning Center at the John Wood Community College Agricultural Education Center, 37803 IL-104, Baylis.

Speakers from the University of Illinois will lead discussions that will address research, current topics and situations producers are facing on farms.

The program features Dan Shike and Josh McCann, U of I professors, who will update attendees on the newest research at the university, including limit feeding in drylot housed cow/calf pairs, heifer development, new feedstuffs and digestion impacts on animal health.

Travis Meteer, U of I Extension beef cattle specialist, will discuss winter feeding rations in a beef cow/calf herd.

Teresa Steckler, Extension beef cattle specialist, will talk about managing increasing tick pressures and give an update on the Asian longhorned tick that was recently discovered in Illinois.

Isabella Condotta, U of I assistant professor, will discuss new technology in grazing management and the role artificial intelligence is playing in grazing.
