Hybrid tillage system hits market

Great Plains Manufacturing introduces Terra Max

SALINA, Kan. — Hybrid tillage tools can help producers be more efficient.

It’s about reducing tillage intensity, improving weed control and increasing operating speeds and overall versatility, said James Shurts, senior product manager at Great Plains Manufacturing, at Commodity Classic.

Great Plains recently launched Terra Max, part of its hybrid tillage lineup.

The company defines hybrid tillage as a tillage system that uses a blend of vertical and conventional tillage methods or tools that allow for an aggressive field pass at faster operating speeds.

“Terra Max is more aggressive than just vertical tillage,” Shurts said. “It enables you to do more. It offers a wide range of tillage needs and versatility in one package. And flexibility to use as primary or secondary tool.”

The equipment features a lengthened frame, opposing left-hand and right-hand rolling spike harrows, and a double-basket rear attachment combined with active hydraulic down-pressure.

Shurts advised farmers to avoid working in fields that are too wet, and to utilize deep, tap-rooted cover crops to alleviate compaction issues.
