New Pivot Bio products available for small grains

BERKELEY, Calif. — Pivot Bio’s new nitrogen-producing microbe for wheat, sorghum and barley growers can help achieve more predictable, productive yields.

Company leaders discussed their products at Commodity Classic.

“Nitrogen is a struggle for all growers, whether it’s corn or sorghum” said Matt Bornhorst, regional sales lead. “Here at Pivot Bio, we don’t want nitrogen to be the limiting factor for a grower.”

Robert Pesek, senior field agronomist, explained how the product works.

“Pivot Bio Return contains naturally occurring nitrogen-fixing microbes that colonize along the plant roots as it grows and provides a reliable, weather-resistant supply of nitrogen to the plant through the season,” Pesek said. “The symbiotic relationship results in healthier plants and more dependable yields.”

Harvest results from research trials show improved yields and a more dependable nitrogen supply than conventional nitrogen.

In 2021, Pivot Bio will continue research trials, including more UAV-driven data and increased tissue analysis.

“We’re improving the ROI of growers,” said Ernie Sanders, vice president of product development. “Our nitrogen does not leech. It stays on the roots of the plants, produces ammonia on a daily basis and feeds that ammonia to your crop plant on a daily basis, which has a good return and benefit for our growers.”
