Prepare for post-herbicide applications

ATLANTA, Ind. — As farmers wrap up planting, the time to apply post-emergence herbicides is upon them.

“It’s very important that we take a look at herbicide tolerances in the crops that we’ve planted and make sure we know what tolerances that crop has,” said Chad Kalaher, Beck’s field sales agronomist.

“If you take a look at our product catalog, page eight of the 2022 catalog gives a herbicide tolerance by hybrid trait.”

It’s important to make sure the tank is free of herbicide contamination to prevent adverse effects to crop growth and potential yield.

For example, hybrids with D3 designation do not carry Liberty herbicide tolerance post-emergence, Kalaher said.

“You want to make sure you double check with your dealer or seed adviser, or double check your product guide on page eight, to make sure that your applying with proper precautions on different hybrids and trait technologies,” he said.

Checking herbicide tolerances can prevent potential crop injury, damage and yield decreases.

The Beck’s Weed Management Resource Guide is a good resource for farmers, Kalaher said.
