A touch of Glass: Learn about farming at the State Fair’s Glass Barn

INDIANAPOLIS — The Glass Barn is a great place to learn about modern agriculture at the Indiana State Fair.

Unveiled by Indiana’s soybean farmers at the 2013 Indiana State Fair, the Glass Barn is a fun destination for Hoosiers to learn about farming.

In addition to being a field trip destination year-long, visitors at the State Fair can enjoy it from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

4 Things To Try At The Glass Barn

1. Shop at the new soybean market. Try playing Soy Market Spree, where you can scan food items as fast as you can. All of the items on your shopping list contain soybeans.

2. Check out the life-sized combine simulator. Imagine what it’s like to harvest from a farmer’s point of view.

3. Listen to farmers share their stories. Farmer chats take place daily at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Chat with real farmers and ask questions. There’s a chance to win a $25 grocery gift card and Dairy Bar milkshake coupons at each chat.

4. Pick a special-effects background, then pose for a photo in front of the green screen. You can email a postcard to yourself, friends and family. It’s a fun, free souvenir to bring home from the State Fair, which runs through Aug. 21.
