From the Fields: One for the history books

Berkeley Boehne harvests his last field of soybeans on Oct. 10. Although the beans are dry at 11% moisture, he has been pleasantly surprised with yields that are above average for his north-central Illinois farm.

It has been quite a run. This harvest is going to go in the history books for the ease of getting things done. By Halloween, there won’t’ be much left around here.

It’s really nice and you don’t see a lot of lights on at night this year. By 7 p.m. you can go home and then start again at 8 or 9 in the morning.

If it stays dry, I’ve heard a lot of guys say they’ll be done in 10 days to two weeks. I think storage will become a problem real fast, but no one is talking about it now because they’ve been focusing on soybeans.
