Langreck: Made of honor

In today’s world where there is so much uncertainty and negativity toward others, I do my best to try and stay upbeat while choosing to find the good in others.

I recently had the honor of talking with an amazing young lady who started a project to remember a friend and longtime supporter of Indiana FFA.

Mary Jones, a junior at Adams Central High School and a member of the school’s FFA chapter, was looking for a way to remember Rob Hays, who served as director of the Indiana FFA before he suddenly passed away in September.

Jones wanted to find a way to remember Hays, who had always been kind to her and encouraged her to participate in FFA activities and always seemed passionate about his job and serving Indiana FFA.

Jones knew she wanted to do something to honor Hays that people could keep with them and actually use, which is why she decided to make and sell wristbands.

There are two wristbands — one yellow and one blue, to represent FFA colors — and both have quotes that Jones picked from Hays’s retiring address when he was an Indiana FFA state officer.

Personally, I ordered a set of the bracelets as soon as I saw they were available for purchase.

Jones’s heartfelt act to find a memorable way to honor Hays truly touched me and listening to the passion in Jones’s voice let me know how much this project means to her.

For more information or to purchase the bracelet bundle, email Jones at 22jonesm@acjettech.net.
