Quinlan: Home on the range

There’s a lot going on at the Quinlan homestead this time of year. The chickens are staying cool in the summer heat. The grapes are ripening on the vine. Blueberries should be ready to harvest soon.

And the not so fun part. Weeds have taken over the entire property. Weed management is something we were ridiculously under-prepared for. So. Many. Weeds.

Lawn work is basically a part time job. To be honest, it’s one we haven’t been doing well. But with two babies to take care of, having a great lawn isn’t a priority.

The takeaway lesson: take care of the weeds before they become larger than your children.

Back to a positive note, I continue to be blown away by this home. We only have a few acres, but it’s amazing how much life it sustains.

Every week or two, new flowers or plants pop up for us to discover. Recently, hydrangeas and purple coneflowers have made their appearance.

And the yard is filled with fireflies at sunset. There’s no place I’d rather spend our summer than at home.
