It finally arrived — National FFA Week. From Feb. 19-26, FFA chapters and members are celebrating the organization that has helped exhibit premier leadership, personal growth and career success.
National FFA Week made its first appearance in 1948 as a new weeklong tradition that was repeated during the weeks of George Washington’s birthday. The week was chosen as a tribute to Washington’s legacy as an agriculturist and farmer.
Chapters will celebrate National FFA Week in a multitude of ways. Many choose to use this time as a way to advocate for agriculture in their school or in their local communities. They use their creativity to hold events that can educate and inspire people about agriculture.
Some chapters might have a school assembly, hold a fundraiser or put on a community service project. Occasionally schools hold a spirit week and students will dress up each day. Some days might be “wear official dress to school” or “dress like your ag teacher.”
The Illinois FFA major state officers are super excited about National FFA Week. The state officers will be traveling the state of Illinois to join the National FFA Week events chapters are hosting. Activities can range from a chapter meeting, a petting zoo or even a potato night.
You may be wondering, “How can I celebrate FFA week?” Consider participating in Illinois FFA’s social media challenge. Check out Illinois FFA on Facebook or Instagram and follow along on each day.
Follow Illinois Association FFA on Facebook or illinois.ffa on Instagram to stay updated on the day’s challenge.
Find a local FFA alumni chapter to get involved in National FFA Week and join in on their activities to promote agriculture.
Donations are also a great way to support FFA throughout the week. This can be on the local, state or national level.
National FFA Week is a time to celebrate agriculture and to advocate for the industry that feeds the world.
