Beef selection and reproduction management seminar Jan. 23

MATTOON, Ill. — The annual Beef Selection and Reproduction Management Seminar will be from 5:15 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 23 n the Ag Building at Lake Land College, 5001 Lake Land Blvd., Mattoon.

Travis Meteer, University of Illinois Extension beef educator, will discuss selection and development of replacement heifers and give an update on the Illinois Performance Tested Bull Sale. Dr. Doug Parrett, University of Illinois, will cover incorporating EPD indexes into bull selection and offer insight to future use of EPDs in selection. Justin Adcock with Boehringer Ingelheim will discuss extending parasite control in your cattle herd. Shandy Bertilino, Vita-Ferm, will speak about the advantages of a breeding-season focused mineral program. Barney Gehl, Zoetis, will discuss genetic testing opportunities for advancing selection of desired traits. Dr. Teresa Steckler will review successful synchronization programs, and Craig Crutcher, ABS, will speak on sire selection trends in the beef industry.
