From the Fields: The longest season

Mark Seib

We began plant 2024 in March, and we ended Friday, May 31. It was the longest planting season in my 50-year experience of planting. We have corn that is waist-high and some that is just peeping through the soil.

Every year, we are always concerned about timely summer rains. A big concern is harvest 2024. We anticipate a “start and slow down” or “start and stop” fall. Harvest could include high-moisture crops that will need a lot of drying. Our current crop looks incredible.
