WHITESTOWN, Ind. — Indiana Corn Marketing Council participated in a groundbreaking ceremony at Wally’s Travel Center in Whitestown, which will sell Unleaded 88, a 15% blend of ethanol.
“Half of the corn crop in Indiana goes toward ethanol production, so it’s a huge win for Indiana corn farmers,” said Helena Jette, biofuels director at ICMC, of the Aug 16 event.
Indiana’s ethanol industry by the numbers:
• 90 — gas stations offering E15.
• 288 — gas stations offering E85.
• 41,498 — full-time employees supported by ethanol production.
• 1.1 million — metric tons of avoided CO2 emission.
• 3.8 million — tons of distillers grains.
• 1.4 billion — gallons of ethanol.
• $3 billion — ethanol’s positive impact on household incomes.
• $3.7 billion — value of ethanol and distillers grains production.
• 43% — corn used for ethanol production.
There are 15 Indiana biorefineries, according to the Renewable Fuels Association:
