Storen eases early season weed worries

The four powerful residual ingredients in Storen complement each other, delivering unprecedented consistency of control compared to other leading corn herbicides. This means fewer weed escapes, less weed interference and a reduced weed seed bank for future years.

YORK, Neb. — One of the biggest challenges growers face early in the planting season is controlling tough weeds. As soon as planting occurs, weeds begin to compete with the crop for sunlight, nutrients and moisture.

That’s why many growers choose pre-emergence, residual herbicides that contain multiple effective sites of action to keep pesky weeds from even emerging in the first place.

Storen® corn herbicide from Syngenta contains two Group 15 herbicides and two Group 27 herbicide for a total of four powerful active ingredients. Storen offers longer-lasting residual control of tough weeds in corn.

With that longer-lasting control, Storen gives growers the gift of time early in the growing season.

“The extended control from Storen gives growers a better chance to reapply their overlapping residual herbicides,” said Chris Munsterman, a Syngenta agronomy service representative in south-central Nebraska.

Storen’s four ingredients — bicyclopyrone, mesotrione, S-metolachlor and pyroxasulfone — provide early season control of over 70 weed species, including tough and resistant weeds like Palmer amaranth, waterhemp and giant ragweed.

Those four ingredients also offer peace of mind for growers concerned about acetolactate synthase (ALS)-resistant weeds like Palmer amaranth and waterhemp.

Data shows Storen corn herbicide delivers greater than 95% weed control on nine out of 10 fields and is effective up to three weeks longer than its competitors, leading to a 4 to 5 bushels per acre yield advantage.

“Small-grain weeds first showed resistance to ALS herbicides roughly 25 years ago. Over time, our biggest concerns shifted toward the Amaranthus species, notably waterhemp and Palmer pigweed,” Munsterman said.

In field trials across seven locations, including trials in Illinois, Storen showed that it can deliver up to 95% weed control consistently compared to competitors. 1

Storen’s maximum residual control offers an additional benefit for growers who are up against the clock during the hectic planting season as it can provide residual control in cornfields up to three weeks longer than competitors. 2

The longer-lasting residual combination in Storen means early season weed control is one less worry for growers racing to get their corn crop planted.

“With many farms expanding and consolidating, there are growers and retailers who manage fields up to 40 miles from their home base. Getting back to those fields in time for a reapplication isn’t always easy,” Munsterman said.

“Storen could be the helping hand they need. As farming evolves, having that extra time can make all the difference.”
