Alternative financing as a risk management tool

Valent’s financing options are designed to help growers manage input costs. They include no-payment and no-interest waivers through September and standard terms through December.

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — This year is shaping up to be another difficult year for corn and soybean growers. When production budgets don’t pencil out, it may be time to investigate interest-slashing financing offers.

“Volatility is probably the biggest issue everybody is trying to deal with. At Valent, we’re trying to bring some predictability to an unpredictable world in agriculture,” said Vince Restucci, market segment manager with Valent U.S.A.

Growers are looking for ways to help manage their costs for this production season. And one of the things they’re leaning into is financing programs.

“Valent is creating programs that bring value and allow growers to bypass paying interest until closer to harvest when they may be getting paid for commodities being shipped to processors or their local elevator,” Restucci said.

Valent’s financing options are designed to help growers manage input costs. They include no-payment and no-interest waivers through September and standard terms through December.

“When you’re sitting there trying to sharpen that pencil, you’re often looking at what can be cut,” Restucci said. “We don’t want anybody to cut the seed treatments, herbicides or other crop protection inputs that are vital to achieving potential. Our financing programs help ensure yield isn’t sacrificed to balance production budgets.”

Restucci advises growers to consult their local retailer for tailored financial solutions based on their farm’s specific needs.
